‘t Kon niet uitblijven: the dark energy song

We hadden al een lied over donkere materie, maar nu is daar ook een lied over donkere energie bijgekomen. Tikkeltje uit de toon af en toe, maar dat mag de pret niet drukken. En ik zou ‘t zelf geen hout beter doen, zeg ik er gelijk maar even bij.

De zanger is professor Lloyd Knox van de Universiteit van Californië, die z’n studenten op originele wijze vertelde eh… toezong wat donkere energie precies is. Dit is de tekst (klik hiernaast):

Dark Energy

Sometimes the death of a star

One per galaxy per century
But the galaxies are plenty
So one can be seen every night
Far and bright
But dimmer than we expected them to be

The light roars across space
The great vastness we face, stretching as space expands
With big telescopes we catch

How the rate of space creation has increased

What is causing this rush?
This late great cosmic flush, hurtling all things apart
Cosmo constant, scalar field,
No compelling theories yield
To the best of our creative and daring minds

Who strain, and reach, and struggle to know why
